I received a warm letter from a philosophy professor at St. John's College in Annapolis, a woman who knew Viktor Zuckerkandl when she was a young teacher at the college. Responding to my article on teaching chamber music she wrote: "I kept thinking to myself: She's doing for music lovers what we, at this college, try to do for students: not turn them into professionals, but try to preserve their amateur's enthusiasm. They read a lot of philosophy together, and professional philosophy is a contradiction in terms."
